Anti Portfolio

In 50's two young Danish engineers who were in India on an extended business trip decided to make it their home and set up an engineering business. They needed to raise financing for their venture and approached Mangaldas Desai, a finance broker, who in turn approached Rasiklal Maneklal Dalal a prominent Bombay Stock Exchange broker and member of the BSE Governing Board. RMD who was closely associated with the birth of the textile industry in Western India, quickly rejected the proposal calling it too risky. The engineers, Holck Larsen and Soren Toubro, went to find their capital elsewhere.

Failed Deal

DELGraphic Systems

DEL Graphic Systems was a national distributor and system integrator for computer peripherals serving the GIS, CAD and Graphic Arts markets. A high cost infrastructure, relatively low volumes and reducing gross margins created an unsustainable financial condition. We had to take the painful step to close the doors of this business in 2004 redeploying select people within other ventures.
